Jerry Playle Aged 18, Jerry wrote and recorded a 5 song demo for broadcast on BBC Radio Kent. Playing guitars, bass and keyboards, it was his first effort at arranging and producing. He returned to the studio working sessions for the Italian owner. |
Located in Dulwich, London, the studio had a fine local reputation for reggae, funk and soul, and Jerry often found himself to be the only white musician on the sessions, a situation repeated later when touring with chart topping US 70's and 80's funk, r'n'b and soul artists Odyssey, Heatwave, Rose Royce, George McCrae and UK's The Real Thing. Closer to home, touring 'The Songs Of Nick Drake' with Keith James' band required sensitive guitar arrangements of 'River Man' and ''Cello Song', here using an Ebow for the song's signature 'cello arrangement. While working as session guitarist at Keith's studio, Jerry often worked alongside acclaimed singer Sarah Randle, whom he later wrote and produced for.
With Jerry's interest in jazz ignited by Jeff Beck's 'Blow By Blow' album, doors were opened wider to the works of Weather Report and Miles Davis among many more, and the deep desire to express those influences led to releasing the solo album 'Beyond Silence' with U.K. Jazz record label '33' Records. A second album 'Bitter Sweet' released through Northstar Music featured Jerry and Danny's work together with the Oktober track 'Journey Home'.
Together Danny and Jerry have written, played and performed for some 15 years, and their music is widely used commercially on TV, radio and film.
As composers our desire is to focus on what the music can communicate; where harmony and colour are emotional connections, and where the guitars are there to carry the sound that intuitively encapsulates that ethos.
